Where are you originally from?

I grew up in a small town in the Philippines called Aliaga where I lived with my parents who worked in politics, I did actually join them in political work but I still wanted to be a magician.

When did you move to Dubai?

In 2014 I decided to follow my dreams and join my older brother in Dubai and look for work. I actually started as a hotel waiter here in Dubai but carried on performing my magic to the guests. I did that for about four years then one day I just got scouted by a local talent agency. I literally quit my job and that was it. I was out there performing in the most elite venues in Dubai, I guess I never gave up and was lucky.

What inspired you to become a magician?

My passion for magic was sparked at 14 when I was amazed by a local performer who transformed one red ball into two in his hands, I couldn’t believe it. I was hooked. This moment has stayed with me throughout my career and I still actually use the ‘red ball’ illusion in my own act today. I just love magic, I like how it makes people happy.

Has your success changed you as a person?

I don’t think so, I still spend a lot of time with my family and keep my Filipno roots close. It kind of keeps me grounded and I try to stay grateful. I like to perform to local workers here in Dubai, it makes me so happy to see their joy.

What would you say to young aspiring magicians?

I really hope that sharing my story will inspire you to follow your dreams, not just magicians but anyone with a special talent and never give up. Just keep focused and carry on working hard, it’s worth the wait!

What’s next for Normando the Magician?

I hope to perform in places beyond Dubai, on the biggest stages around the world. But I just want to keep making people happy and use my media platforms to inspire others.
