Shrinivas Kulkarni: Ever since I was a kid, I always wanted to keep myself updated with technology. I used to spend a lot of time over the internet — I’d learn and explore about new places, news, etc.
When I was in 10th std, I wanted to make my own website and start blogging. Making a website was not as easy as it is now but I had made my mind so I decided to invest in the domain and the content.
In the first year, I hardly got any response — I was devastated. But I did not lose hope, I kept on giving my best. And in the next two years, people started approaching me and my website grew so much that companies like Dell and Asus approached me to promote their products.
Also, I had built a strong network with the key people in the media industry.
On the other hand, I had become an engineering student and often it was getting difficult to cope up with studies and work. In my second year of engineering, I got a backlog in a subject, so my parents insisted that I should focus on my studies.
It was a decision I didn’t want to take but I had to for the sake of education — I sold my website.
Being a software engineer, I got a job after I post graduated but it was dull, I couldn’t wait to start something of my own.
I did a SWAT analysis and concluded that having the advantage of knowing the key people in the media industry, I must start my own digital marketing firm. My clients can use my contacts which can help them in growing organically.
I started four years ago and now, we are proud to say that we’re one of the top digital marketing companies in India. Last year, we won an award for “Most Served Clients”. We served 600+ clients in just six months both, nationally and internationally.
I believe that if you do the right things, the right things will happen. All it takes is what you have when you start and how much committed you are with your decisions.
